Characteristics of Group work:

1.      Group work practiced by the group itself

With the help of group workers, individual changes and personality growth are developed. The group practiced and took steps on his own worth and dignity with the help of its workers

2.      It is based on the humanitarian philosophy

Group work is based on humanitarian philosophy. A group gets its inspiration from the happiness, joy, and prosperity of the members of that particular group within a community. A group must have a belongingness and group philosophy.

3.      It gives aspiration to help each other

Because of living together, and sharing problems and emotions with each other, they get an aspiration to help each other. The group helps the individual when she/he is in a problem.

4.      Group work provides more information and more skill

After the formation of a group by a worker the group members get more information and skill. Because of belongingness and helping mind the member can share their knowledge among themselves. They get more information about science, resources, and techniques.

5.      It develops human personality

After making a group their networking with other groups, workers and agency develop their personality

Goal (Purpose) of Group work:

• To teach the individual to live & work together and participate in group activities for their intellectual emotion& physical growth
• To live a good life within the group and family. The individual is also taught to work together with other people & participate in different activities.
• To develop individual personality& behavior by using different group work processes
• To prepare the individual to learn how to take responsibility in a democratic style of working.
• To give opportunity to those who have potentiality, worth, and dignity of leadership
• To make the best use of leisure time
• To learn the division of labor & specialization of roles just to indicate to play an individual role in the group
• To provide suitable tasks to the individual according to her/his skill, knowledge, and interest
• To widen one’s limitations
• To prepare people for social change
• To apply group therapy in need of physical, mental, and emotional adjustment

Functions of group work:

• Group works mainly see the situation & the needs of all the individuals & try to solve the problems of the individuals. For every individual, the group is the main source of strength & renders everybody a helping hand.
• A group fulfills the social desires and needs of each individual in the group
• Group work is carried on with voluntary groups in the setting of a social agency
• Group workers take care of social agencies in many fields such as education, religion & recreational fields.
• It is a helping process with a dual purpose of individual & group growth.
• The function of group work is always for the betterment of the individual as well as for the growth of the entire group.
• Group worker plays the role of enabler & helping person, by earning an effective group. The group worker is the main person who by her/his better knowledge tries to make the group better.

समूह कार्यको विशेषताहरू:

1.      समूहले नै अभ्यास गरेको समूह कार्य

Social Group worker हरूको सहयोगमा व्यक्तिगत परिवर्तन र व्यक्तित्व विकास हुन्छ। Social Group worker को सहयोगमा समूहका सदस्यहरुले आफ्ना् मूल्य र मर्यादाका लागि सामूहिक कार्य गर्छन् ।

2.      यो मानवीय दर्शनमा आधारित छ

सामूहिक कार्य मानवीय दर्शनमा आधारित छ। एक समूहले समुदाय भित्रको सदस्यहरूको खुशी, आनन्द र समृद्धिबाट प्रेरणा पाउँछ। एउटा समूहमा आत्मीयता र समूह दर्शन हुनुपर्छ।

3.      यसले एकअर्कालाई सहयोग गर्ने आकांक्षा दिन्छ

सँगै बस्ने र एकअर्कासँग समस्या र भावनाहरू share गर्ने कारणले, तिनीहरू एकअर्कालाई मद्दत गर्ने आकांक्षा प्राप्त गर्छन्। समूहले व्यक्तिलाई समस्यामा पर्दा मद्दत गर्दछ।

4.      समूह कार्यले थप जानकारी र थप सीप प्रदान गर्दछ

कार्यकर्ताले समूह बनाएपछि समूहका सदस्यहरूले थप जानकारी र सीप प्राप्त गर्छन्। आत्मीयता र सहयोगी मनका कारण सदस्यले आफ्नो ज्ञान एकआपसमा बाँड्न सक्छन्। तिनीहरूले विज्ञान, स्रोतहरू, र प्रविधिहरू बारे एक अर्काको सहयोगमा थप जानकारी प्राप्त गर्छन्।

5.      यसले मानव व्यक्तित्व विकास गर्दछ

समूह बनाएपछि, समूहका सदस्यहरुले अन्य समूहसँगको सञ्जाल निर्माण गरेर, , कार्यकर्ता र एजेन्सीको सहयोगमा आफ्नो व्यक्तित्व विकास गर्छन्

समूह कार्यको लक्ष्य (उद्देश्य):

• व्यक्तिलाई सँगै बस्न र सँगै काम गर्न र उनीहरूको बौद्धिक, भावना र शारीरिक वृद्धिको लागि समूह गतिविधिहरूमा भाग लिन सिकाउछन् ।
• Group work ले समूह र परिवार भित्र राम्रो जीवन बिताउन सहयोग गर्छ । व्यक्तिलाई अन्य व्यक्तिहरूसँग मिलेर काम गर्न र विभिन्न गतिविधिहरूमा भाग लिन पनि सिकाइन्छ।
• विभिन्न समूह कार्य प्रक्रियाहरू प्रयोग गरेर व्यक्तिगत व्यक्तित्व र व्यवहार विकास गर्न
• व्यक्तिलाई लोकतान्त्रिक शैलीमा काम गर्न कसरी जिम्मेवारी लिने भनेर सिकाउनको लागि ।
• क्षमता, योग्यता र मर्यादा भएकाहरूलाई नेतृत्वको अवसर दिने
• फुर्सदको समयको सदुपयोग गर्न
• समूहमा व्यक्तिको भुमिका प्रदान गर्न कामको बाँडफाँड गर्न र समूह प्रतिको जिम्मेवारी बोध गराउन
• व्यक्तिलाई उसको सीप, ज्ञान र रुचि अनुसार उपयुक्त कार्यहरू उपलब्ध गराउने
• आफ्नो सीमितता (limitations) फराकिलो गर्न
• सामाजिक परिवर्तनको लागि तयार गर्न
• शारीरिक, मानसिक र भावनात्मक समायोजनको आवश्यकता रहेको लाई समूह थेरापी (group therapy) लागू गर्न

समूह कार्यका कार्यहरू

• सामूहिक कार्यले मुख्यतया सबै व्यक्तिहरूको अवस्था र आवश्यकताहरू हेर्छ र व्यक्तिहरूको समस्या समाधान गर्ने प्रयास गर्दछ। प्रत्येक व्यक्तिको लागि, समूह शक्तिको मुख्य स्रोत हो र सबैलाई सहयोग प्रदान गर्दछ।
• एक समूहले समूहमा प्रत्येक व्यक्तिको सामाजिक इच्छा र आवश्यकताहरू पूरा गर्दछ
• स्वैच्छिक समूहहरू (voluntary groups) सँग सामाजिक एजेन्सीको सहयोगमा सामूहिक कार्यहरू गरिन्छ
• समूह कार्यकर्ताहरूले शिक्षा, धर्म र मनोरञ्जन क्षेत्रहरू जस्ता धेरै क्षेत्रहरूमा सामाजिक एजेन्सीहरूको लागि काम गर्छन् ।
• यो व्यक्तिगत र समूह वृद्धिको दोहोरो उद्देश्यका साथ सहयोगी प्रक्रिया हो।
• सामूहिक कार्यको कार्य सधैं व्यक्तिको उन्नति र सम्पूर्ण समूहको विकासको लागि हो।
• समूह कार्यकर्ताले प्रभावकारी समूह बनाएर सक्षम र मद्दत गर्ने व्यक्तिको भूमिका खेल्छ। समूह कार्यकर्ता मुख्य व्यक्ति हो जसले उसको ज्ञान तथा सीपले समूहलाई राम्रो बनाउन प्रयास गर्छ।
